Twitter me this.....

So, how many of us bloggers also use Twitter?  And how many of us really know what we are doing?

Don't beat me up here, I like Twitter.  It's just that Twitter has become more of a celebrity driven/death announcing/new job bragging site that I think was originally intended.

Let's go a bit deeper.  How many of us were really still fans of Gary Coleman (of Arnold fame), who felt an overwhelming outpouring of grief when he recently passed away?  I am not stating that his death was not sad, all deaths are sad.  What I am saying is that I must have seen over 200 tweets from folks practically throwing themselves in his grave.  I mean, come on - let's be realistic.  Same kind of thing with any death - all the "celebrities" on Twitter feel the need to comment.  Are they all just one big friend universe?  Does anyone really think that these folks hung out together?

Let's look at celebrity postings - are we to assume that most of these folks are telling us something important or is it just a "really, I am funny - read my tweets" vibe.  Should I be able to tell the difference between comedy tweets and just regular tweets?   Why should I have to think that hard?

Business - well that's a whole other can of worms.  Tweet me your specials - ok.  Tweet me your newest blog posts - ok.  Tweet me a question or a poll - I'd rather check your website or Facebook page.  Do you need to tweet that "you don't like cash payments" or that "just finished a celeb's home"?  Does that make you stand above the crowd?  Well, not for me....and I don't think I am alone.  I think it just show we don't know what we are doing with Twitter.

And something else that makes my point - the book in this post.  It's an interesting thought that you could use Twitter for marketing, but I just don't think it works the same way as Facebook - unless you have several thousand followers.  Most small businesses don't.

I'll stick with Facebook for my business.  Twitter for some business but mostly for fun.

And I need to clean up my following list - especially if it makes me this aggravated.

I have somehow avoided going the Twitter route. Facebook bugs me enough on some days. I can't imagine how irritated I would get with all the tweets about buying new shoes, eating a great burger, and getting a pedi. Wow.
