Random Thoughts - Spring 2011

1) Loved this book and I am really looking forward to the movie!  I hope it stays close to the book and does not become too "Hollywood".

2) Why is it that the people who tailgate you - even when you are sppeding - give you the finger when they pass you?

3) I just love The Cooking Channel - Nigella, Two Fat Ladies, plus some really interesting new shows.  It's like how the Food Network used to be. Before it became the game show cooking channel.

4) Speaking of The Food Network - if I never see Rachel Ray again on my television I will be a very happy person.  Can you say "overexposed?"

5) Happy that spring is here, and glad the be able to shed the heavy clothes and spruce up the wardrobe.  Question - how many of you are like me and change your handbag for each season?  I love my new spring bag and can't wait to start using it (I always wait until after Passover).

Hope everyone who celebrates has a lovely Easter and that Passover is easy.

P.S.  Don't forget to check out the Career Wardrobe Fundraiser and Target Gift card giveaway!

Happy Friday!

Every year my husband and I host the family for a Kosher Easter dinner.  We do this because:

a) I am Jewish
b) The hubby is not; and
c) I keep kosher during Passover

So for the most part Passover and Easter collide, so this was the best compromise.  We have over the years, worked out a pretty good menu that we can prepare on the limited dishes, cookware and bake-ware we have available during this time of year.

Our menu this year is Leg of Lamb, Seared Tuna appy, my FIL's Lemon soup (with matzo instead of breadcrumbs), Potato Pancakes, Mashed (for the hubby) and some nice spring vegetables.  Pre-dinner snacks are usually dips and crudities (including the famous Tam-Tam crackers.)

My darling son usually helps the hubby prepare the tuna, but he is (sob!) still away at college and therefore I will be pressed into service.  I would rather not help with this - as the hubby gets a bit frantic when he cooks - but I will just remember to keep quiet about my ideas for the plating and let it be.

I am going to fry the potato pancakes early in the day, so I am in the kitchen as little as possible when the meal is served.  One of the things I have learned  is that it is best for our marriage of we don't overlap when cooking as our styles are very different and do not mesh at all!  But it's good to learn and the food always comes out great!

So, I am off to do some last minute shopping for Sunday - it looks like I have no Kosher measuring cups/spoons, so I have to grab them today.  It seems every year I learn that we need something new in the KOP bin!  Pretty soon it will be a fully stocked kitchen I can give to my son when he moves out - lol!

Hope everyone has a happy Easter, a great meal and an easy end to Passover!

P.S.  Don't forget my fundraiser for the Career Wardrobe and a chance at a Target gift card!

An Opportunity and A Giveaway

Update:  For those who asked, I will;  in addition to your donations; be donating 10% additional jewelry to what is raised.  i.e. if $500 is raised, I will add an extra $50 in jewelry.  Thanks for asking!

I am really excited about this and could not wait to share!

As most of you know, I am an Independent Consultant for Cookie Lee Jewelry and an area coordinator for the Heartlink Network.  I was looking for an opportunity to do a fundraiser that would combine both of these roles and I have found the perfect one....The Career Wardrobe.

The Career Wardrobe is the nation’s largest independent, community-based non-profit organization serving women transitioning into the workforce by providing professional attire. Since 1995, The Career Wardrobe has assisted nearly 70,000 women by inspiring the confidence necessary to achieve independence.   The Career Wardrobe is able to assist women from throughout the Philadelphia region.

And isn't a nice watch, a good pair of earrings or a necklace a confidence booster both inside and outside?

So you are asking....how can I help?

I am holding a new Jewelry drive starting today and running until right before Mother's Day - May 7th - and you and the Career Wardrobe are getting all the benefits!  And if you make a donation (by purchasing jewelry for the drive) you will be entered into a drawing for a $25.00 TARGET gift card.

And who doesn't love Target?

Here's how to help a great cause and maybe help yourself:

1) Go to my Cookie Lee website and check out all the great items.

2) Pick any item to purchase for The Career Wardrobe - get 5% off, then pick another item for yourself (or for the event) and get 25% off that item!   That's Right - 25% off the second item.

3) Send me an e-mail at dnapoleons1018(at)comcast.net with your order and contact information and how you wish to pay (paypal, credit card, check).

4) I will contact you for payment verification/details.

5) Once payment is verified, you will have one entry into the drawing.

6) Leave a comment after ordering and you will get a second entry.

7) Become a follower after ordering (or tell me you are already) for a third entry.

8) This is open until May 7th only and all Jewelry will be delivered the week of May 22nd.  I would like to notify the Career Wardrobe about the final totals on Mother's Day!

SO help me to help others - help women who need a new start and don't have the means or the wardrobe to make it happen.

And maybe get something for yourself in the process - knowing that you helped others to move their lives forward.  An opportunity.....

My Happy List

Photobucket

I know I'm a day late, but I wanted to share my Happy list this week!

1)  Seeing my bestests daughter rock the house (she is a kick-ass drummer) at the finals of the Battle of the Bands at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park today!  Look for "Short Lived Affair" - they are on YouTube - they will be big!

2) Having dinner with my darling hubby on the days I work at Macy's for 8 hours.  The days are so long and it's a nice break to have my DH meet me for dinner to break it up.

3) The Home Staging business is picking up nicely and I think that we are really moving forward in a smart, methodical way.

That's this weeks list - how about you?

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

How fun is this?

One of the things I love about blogging is reading other blogs and commenting.  So this is a chance for all of us to do that together, and how great of 5Minutes for Mom to organize all of this.

I started this blog with the idea that I would comment on my life as I move from one career to the next and so far, I have been doing that.  Sometimes very slowly and other times the business moves faster than I expected.

But I am an excited small business woman working to make an impact in how people view Home Staging and direct sales.....

I like to think I am more business oriented with a slice of life included and I hope that you enjoy visiting!

Now off to visit and comment on other blogs - and thanks for stopping by!
